Upper Madison Fishing Report 09/17/2014
The river is still in transition as we are on the way to fall. You may get some fish to rise to terrestrials on the warmer sunny days. The cloudier days will bring about the baetis and other mayflies that fish will be willing to eat. Again your most consistant fishing will be under an indicator with a rubberlegs and a small bead head dropper. Zonkers, and buggers will be worth a try too.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 8/27/14
The morning fishing has been slow due to colder temps. Wait around and grab a coffee before hitting the river. Once things heat up a little the fishing is better.10 am is a good start time. You will get some dry fly action in the afternoon with terrestrials but your most consistant fishing will be under an indicator with a rubberlegs and a small bead head dropper. Zonkers, and buggers will be worth a try too.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 8/27/14
The cooler temps from the weekend provided a nice break from the sun and heat. The fish think so too as fishing is improving. Terrestrials should be back with the dry warm weather. Also look for baetis and other small mayflies about. The fishing may slow mid day but will be better than the last few weeks. Don't be afriad to throw the hopper around for that one fish lurking under that big boulder. Fishing in the morning and evening will be best. Hoppers, ants, beetles with a nymph dropper is a great rig to use this time of year. Dead drifting larger buggers and streamers will also produce fish.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 8/20/14
Fish early and fish late-- the heat has caught up to the river and mid-day fishing has been tough. During the cooler parts of the day caddis, spruce moths, smaller mayflies, and attractor patterns are bringing fish up. Nymphing with stoneflies and smaller attractor droppers is effective. The weather forecast for the upcoming week is calling for fall weather to start rolling in with cooler temps that should make for more consistent all-day action. With the weather will come some wind and rain so be ready for that but the fish don't care and will be ready to eat all the same.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 8/12/14
The dog days of summer are here. Fish are happy early in the morning and late in the evening before the sun gets a chance to boil the river. The fish will be looking up for an assortment of PMDs, Caddisflies, hoppers, beetles, ants, and spruce moths. With water temps creeping up over the course of the day, the trout will move into slightly faster and slightly deeper water so look for foam lines and bubbles and cast right in the heart of them. Midday sticking with terrestrials can keep the bite alive. Fishing stoneflies, caddis pupa, mayfly nymphs and attractor nymphs under an indicator is working well through the deeper pockets. The fish are in there and waiting to eat, now go get 'em!

Upper Madison Fishing Report 7/30/14
Set the alarm clocks early and beat the sun to the river; the summer heat is catching up to the fish and making them a little trickier to catch. Early and late are the best times to be on the water and expect to see PMDs, yellow sallies, and lingering but waning caddis. The spruce moths are due to turn up any day which should turn up the fish activity in the coming weeks. The hopper, ant, and beetle fishing is picking up quick and can be the ticket if you are out in the water late morning through the afternoon. Nymphing remains a productive option with caddis pupae, stoneflies, and attractor type flies working the best. It has been SPF50 weather but the fish are eating and fishing is good!
