Upper Madison Fishing Report 6/23/2015
The Upper Madison has seen some very good fishing lately. Most of the reports coming in are of good dry fly fishing on Golden stones, Caddis, Salmon fly, Yellow Sally and PMD imitations. We are hearing of very good nymph fishing as well on an array of Yellow Sally, Mayfly and Stonefly imitations. The big bugs have been reported above McAtee Bridge even as high up as Palisades. Some stragglers are below and fish will still be looking for them. Temps are supposed to rise and be hot by the weekend so keep that in mind when planning your day!

Upper Madison Fishing Report 5/15/2015
The boss was on the Upper yesterday and here is what he had to say. Fishing was good not great. Once the clouds moved in dry fly fishing turned on with March Browns and Baeits. Before that nymphs patterns of these bugs were the go to. When the storms moved in the fishing slowed way down. The upper is still a great choice especially if you want to get away from the crowded lower stretch. Remember the wade section from Quake Lake to Lyons Bridge opens up tomorrow along with the Lyons Bridge to Mactee Bridge section!

Upper Madison Fishing Report
Sun, sun and more sun!  It's an awful lot like early summer out there!  Well, maybe not summer, but high 50s in Feb???  Lots of folks heading out to rid themselves of the "shack nasties"!  The Upper Maddy from "between the lakes" down through $3Dollar Bridge will be a good bet. You won't be alone however.   While you may start to find a few midging fish on the surface in the coming weeks, it's primarily a slow, deep nymphing game.  Midge pupa, small stoneflies, mayflies, san Juans, egg patterns will be the go-to rigs for quite some time yet.  Remember that the "Upper" closes from Lyons Bridge upstream at the end of Feb.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 01/13/2015
Upper Maddy from "between the lakes" down through $3Dollar Bridge has been decent to good as of late.  It's wintertime, so look for the open water that is off speed and preferably with depth for cover.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 10/11/2014
The flows on the Madison are looking a little below normal but temps have been good. Fishing has been good with reports of nice trout being taken on streamers and nymphs. The whitefish bite is strong and you will be able to catch a lot of these guys right now. The trout are mixed in so just keep on fishing and try different looking water than your usual. Dry flies have been slow but under an indicator with a double nymph rig or a streamer dropper rig will get the job done. Stripping streamers and buggers can produce fish as well.

Upper Madison Fishing Report 09/30/2014
Fishing is becoming more consistant with the cooler weather and cloudy days. Fish have been taken on dries, nymphs under and indicator and streamers swung, stripped, or dead drifted. Caddis larva, midges for your nymphs. Dries include baetis and small attractors. If your throwing streamers go with a zonker, Dungeon, or Shelia's.
