Yellowstone National Park Rivers - April 10th, 2014
  • Recorded:
  • Partly cloudy
  • 54 ° F
  • Fishing: Poor
The Park is currently closing to fishing.  It re-opens the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.  Although closed to angling, the sight seeing can be fantastic this time of year.  Bears are starting to come out of hibernation and can be seen in good numbers in the spring.  That, along with all of the other wildlife in the park can make for a great day.  You can end the day with a soak in the Boiling River on your way out of the Park.  Better than being inside...

If we could only get in the Park....... Gov't shutdown continues to frustrate anglers looking to fish the Park waters.  I'm sure it'd be good in there.  Rangers are not to be messed with!  If they catch you entering Park waters from walking up places like the Yellowstone river outside the Park or the Madison from Baker's Hole and entering Park territory, expect a hefty $500 fine and tresspassing violation.  BUNK JUNK!!!!

Good luck in entering the Park today!  Gov't shutdown!  "Sorry folks, Park's closed!"  Where's Clark Griswold when you need him????  Let's hope that D.C. can get their S*** together and end this silliness!

Yellowstone National Park Rivers - September 28th, 2013
  • Recorded:
  • Scattered showers

  • Fishing: Good
What to do on the last weekend in September and you want to fish the Park?  Fishing has been good, but for the next couple days it's going to be blustery out there.  Even up high in the Park, wind is going to be your biggest detractor.  Scattered showers, possibly even some snow squalls.  Better dress the part!  Park waters are running clean.  The Lamar & Soda Butte are in good shape.  Slough too.  Yellowstone in the Park also checks out as good.  Don't expect much in the way of AM action.  It's really turned to an afternoon gig on these parts.  Attractor dries with smaller beadhead droppers are the norm.  Getting deeper may not be a bad call at all.  Over in the NW quadrant, the Firehole report has been solid fishing on dries, especially in the afternoon. BWO's as well as very light tan caddis.  Madison is seeing pretty decent fishing as well and a fair bit of pressure.  There's a few browns "staging" but the main run isn't for a couple weeks yet.
