Local Fishing Report: May 3, 2008
Mother's Day caddis are so VERY close now. Looking back a year ago, caddis had been coming off for several days already. Biggest difference this year has been our weather.
We are poised to have a very healthy runoff this year which is sorely needed and with all hope, we are going to have fantastic water all season long. For now though, we need to burn off of the remainder of the low elevation snow with warm days and cold nights and the water temp has to get to 50-54 before the caddis go nuts. We're close with the next several days of warmth and sun...
Yellowstone River

Several boats on the water yesterday. Mixed reviews. Some were saying it wasn't bad, others kind of shook their heads and said that it was a tough day. Water is definitely getting better and has the good green characteristics to it. Bad thing is that the temps dropped right back to near 40 when it had been hanging around the mid to upper 40s.
Madison River report

With the Yellowstone and Gallatin basically out of whack, you can expect to see a lot of traffic over this way. Whether you are heading to the Lower river, hiking up Bear Trap, or the Upper river around Ennis, we've been hearing good things. And it should continue, albeit just a bit more crowded.
Gallatin River Fishing Report

Fishing WAS good here until the Taylor's fork blew out. Not an option today. We'll have to see how things play out in the next couple days with how well the Gallatin comes back into shape.
Missouri River Fishing Report

Fishing kickin' butt up here. When the wind isn't! Water temps are are creeping up right now and getting into that nice 40-something. We ought to be seeing Baetis here real quick. It's definitely banker's hours, No need to get any kind of any early start.
Paradise & Gallatin Valley Spring Creeks

Paradise creeks have decent fishing right now. What caddis we have been seeing have been located more or less around the creeks due to their warmer water temps than the Yellowstone. Creeks are closer to 50 degrees whereas the river is about 40-44. With this, the creeks are a good option right now.
Closed until later in May and under LOTS of snow. We're talking FEET not just a little bit. See you in a couple weeks.
