Spring 2008 eNewsletter

This newsletter marks the beginning of our third season in our current flyshop location in Emigrant. It's our 10th year in existence and Matson's 17th year as an outfitter/guide in the Greater Yellowstone region. A lot has changed over the past couple seasons. All great, of course. And we have quite a few new things planned for the coming year. In this edition, you'll find out about our phenomenal post-runoff fishing opportunites, the new gear out for 2008, more about our guide and shop staff as well as a new Tips and Techniques section that details some of those "guide secrets" to catching Yellowstone Country trout. To any seasoned angler, the word "Salmonfly" conjures up images of large trout slashing at the surface, gorging themselves on 2 inch long stoneflies after a long spring of high, muddy rivers swollen with snowmelt runoff.

Lamson Konic "The Batten-Killer"

Lamson has come up with some great fly reels in the past couple seasons. Winston Boron II-MX

Winston's new BII-MX is a true fast action rod. A diehard SAGE fan for years, I believe the B-II MX gives the Z-Axis a run for it's money. Both are very comparable in terms of power and distance but, when it comes to accuracy and finesse, Winston's BII-MX finishes ahead.

Ross Fly Rod for 2008

We all know Ross as one of the top reel manufactureres in the USA with award winning models like the Cimarron and Evolution. As a Ross Pro Staff member, I've been using their reels for years and can attest to Ross' excellent functionality, durability, and when something does go awry, Ross' super fast and wonderfully competant customer service. In other flyshop news, our staff continues to grow and change in our effort to give you, our customer, excellent service and product knowledge. Brooke Howell will be re-joining us this year and stepping up to our fly shop manager's role. Brooke brings an excellent "go get-em" attitude and tenaciousness to the shop as well as her smile and charm. Both Jimmy Blackburn and Burke Holmes round out our shop staff at this time…
