Winston Boron II-MX -a true fast-action rod

by Jimmy Blackburn

Winston's new BII-MX is a true fast action rod.  A die hard SAGE fan for years, I believe the B-II MX gives the Z-Axis a run for it's money.  Both are very comparable in terms of power and distance but, when it comes to accuracy and finesse, Winston's BII-MX finishes ahead.  I've fished a SAGE XP for years, and the Z-Axis for the past year and a half.  I love them both, but after experiencing the new BII-MX(5-wt), it's my next rod.  Until recently, Winston rods were a bit too soft and slow for my taste.  However, this time around Winston combined the speed and power of a Z-Axis along with the classic Winston smooth supple feel. The BII-MX offers the best of both worlds in my opinion.

I found the 5 and 6 weights are stiffer and faster than their Boron IIx counterparts; the 7 through 12-weights (with a cork fighting butt) are work horses designed to handle sinking lines, big flies and humbling winds.  All seven models offer faster actions, very capable of casting long distances, but will still impress with their responsiveness and lightweight.  All in all, you can't go wrong with the new Winston BII-MX.
