Yellowstone River Update August 12th, 2018

The Yellowstone River is in great shape after a serious heat wave. Temperatures in the upper 90s all week have put a bit of a damper on fishing the afternoons, however the morning bite has continued to produce fish. Flows at Corwin Springs are steady at 3,380 cfs and 4,000 cfs near Livingston. The river looks great, as clarity is at its highest and cool nights keep the temps in a good range. We have had our hottest week of the year here in the Paradise Valley, although river temps have not gotten too high. Throughout the days, temps have […]

Yellowstone River Update August 3rd, 2018

Water remains clear as the Yellowstone River continues to fish well here in the first week of August. This mornings flows came in at 4,260 at Corwin and 5,090 in Livingston. Despite significantly lower flows than we have had, please be careful in the river. The sections below Pine Creek to town have some serious hydraulics that require attention on the oars, so please be prepared when floating those sections. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions regarding possible float options. As temperatures rise, count on the mornings for a good dry fly bite, however […]

Yellowstone River Update July 14, 2018

The Yellowstone River still has a little time before it is really back into prime shape. Crowds seem to be down following the holiday week as well as the passing of the salmonfly hatch. Flows out of Yellowstone Lake are almost below 5,000 cfs which means that the river should really be starting to clear in the next week or so. The river is at 7,400 cfs near Corwin Springs and at 8,310 cfs in Livingston. Each day flows are looking better and better! There have been a plethora of bugs throughout the day. Most notably are the Yellow Sallies […]

Yellowstone River Update July 6, 2018

It has been a busy week on the Yellowstone river. Sunny days and the holidays put many people on the water to fish as well as pleasure float. Although the river hasn’t cleared up, it is dropping and beginning to look more and more green each day. We are still waiting for the flows coming out of Yellowstone Lake to drop below 5,000 cfs for clearer water to start flowing through the valley. Flows near Corwin Springs are currently at 9,470 cfs and 9,140 cfs in Livingston. Although the river is certainly improving, we do believe that these flows will […]

Yellowstone River Update July 1, 2018

The Yellowstone River has been dropping considerably as of late and we’re getting a lot of questions when we think it will be game on. In the last week, we have seen significant improvements in water level and clarity. Despite a general lack of clarity(8 in.) in the river, anglers are testing the waters and giving daytime floats a shot. Boat ramps are starting to come alive, as more and more trailers are being parked throughout the valley. Today the river is at 12,400 cfs near Corwin Springs, and 11,200 cfs in Livingston. Still a little out of the realm […]

Local River Fishing Report June 23, 2018

When fishing in heavily traficked areas in Yellowstone National Park, be prepared to fish for an audience! Here Doyt Con Jr. is seen fishing with a few park tourists in tow. Yellowstone River: The Yellowstone River has seen a significant drop since we last posted a fishing report. The river is down to 14,800 cfs in Livingston and 15,000 cfs up stream at Corwin Springs. We are confident that the river has peaked and that she will continue to drop as we get closer to being able to put boats on the water. There is still a lot of mud […]

Madison River Fishing Report June 7, 2018

The Madison River has started to clear and the fishing is picking up. The past few evenings there have been solid caddis hatches on the upper stretches of river near 3$ Bridge and Reynolds Pass. Fish are rising to opportunity, but was not super consistent yesterday evening. The hatch began around 6:30 PM and died down getting closer 8PM. Fishing was solid when fishing subsurface. Pat’s Rubber Legs, larger stonefly nymphs and Hare’s ears seemed to do the trick when fish weren’t rising to the surface. This brown trout was taken on a #14 Olive Hare’s Ear just before the […]

Missouri River Report, May 17, 2018

With the Yellowstone River on the rise and dirty, to accommodate we have had our annual trips to the Missouri river. Multiple day trips are kicking off out of Craig and the fishing has been good! The Mo is high, but water clarity is good and the fish are eating subsurface. Matson’s mom, Susie Fleet, and her husband Norman Fleet, doubled up on a couple of nice Mo river trout, thank you to Jeff Pavlovich for some great days on the water. Even the walleye are eating!

Yellowstone-Madison River Fishing Report May 4, 2018

The Yellowstone river is continuing to rise and get dirty as runoff seems to have kicked into gear, although it is still fishing. Current visibility on the Yellowstone is about a foot maybe less by the time this report is finished! Caddis, March Browns, and Blue Winged Olives have been seen on the river, however surface fishing has greatly diminished with the rising of the flows and drop in river clarity. For the coming weeks we will be focusing much more on the local Paradise Valley spring creeks as well as private lakes in the area. We’ve also been sending […]

Spring on the Spring Creeks

Cool shot from our friend Dan Armstrong on Depuy’s spring creek this week. The creeks have been fishing well all spring and will continue to do so while many area rivers are blown out with spring runoff. We continue to see respectable midge hatches most days. Baetis have been good on the cloudy days. There may be a few caddis seen as well in coming weeks. The creeks don’t get the full blown Mother’s Day caddis blowup that the Yellowstone does, but they do get some bugs and enough so that an angler can do well on caddis patterns in […]
